Numerical analysis of the torsional and flexural‐torsional buckling behaviour of compressed steel members at elevated temperature

Steel angle sections are frequently employed in bracing systems or truss structures as single members built-up members. Angles may be coupled back-to-back to create Tee cruciform cross-sections. These sensitive torsional and flexural-torsional buckling due the cross-section shape fact that axial force not applied at shear centre. In this work, a comprehensive numerical investigation of behaviour compressed angles, T steel cross-sections elevated temperature was performed. A parametric study carried out on Class 1 3 profiles subjected uniform distribution. Several finite element analyses were by varying slenderness, cross section, grade employing beam shell elements. It found curve given European structural code for fire, i.e. EN 1993-1-2, provided results, conservative large slenderness range practical interest, 0.4 ≤ λθ 1.5. Based adapted curves proposed better predict temperature.
